Mumbai, Maharashtra, India – Hurix Digital, a worldwide leader offering digital technology solutions, properly enabled a large $800 million retail chain to achieve a 99.9 % uptime on system availability by implementing its resilient disaster recovery (DR) solution based on Azure. Using Azure for DR not only allows for even greater system reliability but also saves more than 50% in expenses related to secondary data center costs.
The client, a household name in the US with 5,000 stores, was burdened with failing infrastructure. They were unable to recover the transactional system quickly with the aging secondary site, which contributed to unplanned downtime, high maintenance costs, and associated costs relating to customer dissatisfaction. Their budgets limited the upgrading of infrastructure or delayed it totally, indicative of risk to their operations.
After Hurix Digital’s Cloud Services Architects conducted an infrastructure audit to establish present and future needs, a solution was developed, establishing an active-passive disaster recovery designed for Microsoft’s cloud service to be the DR site, while maintaining the primary on-premises system. It was validated and evaluated that the service provided a thirty-minute Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO). After confirmation, the client decommissioned the obsolete secondary site and migrated all DR activities to Azure, which allowed for a cut over 50% of DR infrastructure-related costs.
The transformation has been remarkable. The client now experiences 99.9% availability—not just during outages—but providing business continuity, building greater customer confidence, and minimizing losses due to downtime. Backup and recovery processes are entirely automated, and the Azure DR site minimizes maintenance and eases scaling.
