HurixDigital Develops Accessible Math Videos for K-12 Students
Client Overview
The client is one of the leading K-12 online education providers. Their online curriculum is designed for homeschooled children and as a supplement to classroom teaching. They wanted Hurix to develop learning videos for grades K to 12. The videos were to be developed in a highly engaging manner and comply with the WCAG guidelines. To ensure inclusivity, the client specifically required Accessible Math Videos that cater to diverse learning needs, including students with disabilities. Hurix developed Accessible Math Videos with clear visuals, audio descriptions, captions, and interactive elements, making complex mathematical concepts easier to understand. These videos aligned with WCAG standards, ensuring an equitable and engaging learning experience for all students.
The Challenge
Create engaging learning videos for Grade K to 12
Ensure the videos are WCAG compliant with audio descriptions
Our Solution
The project workflow included developing storyboards, video recording, graphic development, voice-over, sound recording and final review
We used live actors to introduce the core concept of the topic. This was primarily used for introduction and closing of the video
Audio description at the beginning of the visuals to describe the following scene. These descriptions were created separately over and above the regular voice-over script
Creating SRT files for closed captions
Following the color contrast ratio of 4:5:1 for animation art and illustrations
Tools such as Adobe After Effects and Photoshop were used for graphic and layout development
Four videos were developed as part of the ‘Proof of Concept’. Two for each Maths & English subject; one depicting video with illustration and one with live actor recording
The Result
Developed 200+ Math videos for K-12 students
Each animation in the videos ranged from 50 – 70 seconds
The combination of live actors, illustrations, photos, sound effects & music made the learning videos highly engaging
